Professional Internship Program provides career experience
RISD’s Professional Internship Program (PIP) is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) course and open to every student. The students are provided with an invaluable opportunity to work in a career they wish to pursue in the future. They are making connections with professionals they would not have the opportunity to work with on their own, while still in high school.
The course is a one semester, two hour block class. The interns are required to be in class two hours and at their internship eight hours each week. During class, soft skills are emphasized along with researching colleges and scholarship opportunities. The final exam project involves each intern researching a problem and solution in the industry they are interning. This research is then presented to their sponsor, coordinating teacher and fellow classmates at the end of the semester.
Applicants must complete an application, get teacher recommendations and go through an interview process to be accepted into the program. They must interview with the perspective sponsor to gain an internship. If you are interesting in becoming a PIP sponsor, please contact the district’s CTE Advisors for additional options for business involvement.
